Why use a Mallet Putter?

If you ask a seasoned golfer what is the most important part of playing the game, the chances of him saying “putting” are pretty high. Putters are broadly classified as mallet putters and blade putters. As you might have inferred from the name, both of them are very much effective putters, but their design is what is used to identify them. A simple blade putter looks like a horizontal metal piece that has been attached at the end of a long stick whereas the mallet putter looks more like a half cut ball that has been fixed to a stick. Regardless of their design, they both are very important for the game, especially if you are playing to win. Depending on the distance you plan to hit, you need to choose the right kind of putter. A wisely chosen one will get the job done in fewer shots and hence, will give you an advantage in the game, unlike a poorly selected putter.

A mallet putter should be used when you are planning to get the most power out of your ball and perhaps get it far off, without necessarily being worried about the exact final location that it will end up. This putter should be used for people who don’t mind off center putts and just want the ball to go the distance and end up in the pocket. A blade putter on the other hand, is considered less forgiving owing to the fact that it is harder to curve the ball and consequently, easier to align straight and little else. This putter should be considered if you are a hundred percent sure that you can get the ball in with it.

All putters have one thing in common, which is the fact that they are made of soft metal and hence, they might take the brunt of the force when you are rough with your golf bag and don’t treat it in the manner it is supposed to be treated. The soft metal is ideal to make putters and gives you a good grip as well as power with the equipment. Furthermore, mallet putters are also known for their distinct rounded appearance, which is preferred by some golfers. Although the visual appeal doesn’t really hold much value, it does help in changing certain attributes like power and drive, which suits the tastes of some players.
